Belfast Noise map
In accordance with the Environmental Noise Directive, strategic noise maps for Northern Ireland have been produced estimating noise levels from the following sources:

  • Major Roads…………………roads with more than 6 million vehicle passages annually;
  • Major Railways……………...railways with more than 60,000 train passages annually;
  • Major Airports……………….airports with more than 50,000 aircraft movements annually, and;
  • Agglomerations……………...urban areas with greater than 250,000 inhabitants, taking into account the above sources and additionally other roads, railways, aircraft movements and industrial premises.

This section provides interactive Opens New Browser Window access to maps of the agglomeration for each noise souce individually, or collectively as a consolidated noise map. Interactive noise maps for major roads and major airports are also available.

Alternatively, downloadable maps have been produced in Adobe Reader Format for subsequent dowloading to your computer.

The number of people exposed to the different noise levels from each source within the agglomeration has been estimated. Population exposure tables are available for the following categories:-
