InstructionsUsers are encouraged to read the Glossary of Noise Terms for an explanation of the noise measurement terms used in these maps. The maps show noise levels, in decibels, in the form of noise contour bands overlaid on geographical features such as roads, railways, water bodies and buildings. These contour bands show the different range of noise levels that can be experienced in a given area and are distinguished by the use of different colours. The decibel levels shown on the maps have been produced to represent the noise situation for a typical a composite day/evening/night period (Lden) and for night time only (Lnight), based on annual averages. Accessing the Maps To find the interactive map you require, select the Noise Source (Algomeration Roads, Major Road, Airports, Industry, Rail or Consolidated) from the drop down list. Users can choose to display Noise Metric contours for either Lden (day/evening/night average) or Lnight, by choosing the relevant option from the ‘Noise Metric’ drop-down. An additional 'Address Search' option is also available, where users are required to enter a valid Street, Town or Postcode e.g. BT1 2GP (please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page for areas that have been mapped). Interactive Map Viewer You can navigate the noise map by using the controls in the top left-hand of the map window. These enable you to pan, zoom and re-centre on your selected postcode. Please note that these controls are only available for users that have JavaScript enabled (refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page for details on how to enable to JavaScript for your browser). | |
